Global Bridgefor animals

One animal, one monthly payment, one honest report

To sponsor an animal is to cover the ordinary bills of one specific dog, cat, horse or donkey while it waits for a home. You get its file, not a generic thank you letter.

Sponsorship exists because the animals hardest to rehome are also the most expensive to keep: elderly cats, dogs in wheelchairs, horses that will never be ridden. A sponsor makes those animals affordable for a shelter that would otherwise have to choose between them and the next intake.

What sponsorship costs by species

The sums are what the shelter actually spends per month on food, bedding, parasite treatment and a share of veterinary care.

AnimalMonthly costWhat it covers
Sponsor a cat12 euroFood and litter, parasite treatment, plus a share of clinic time
Sponsor a dog22 euroFood and bedding, parasite treatment, plus a share of clinic time

What a sponsor receives

  • The animal's file: intake photographs, age, species, medical history and current status.
  • A photograph and a short update every quarter, taken by the shelter rather than staged for donors.
  • The veterinary summary if the animal is treated during your sponsorship.
  • First notice if the animal is adopted, so you can choose whether to move to another one.
  • An annual statement of what your payments covered, for your own records or your tax office.

How sponsorship works

How to sponsor an animal if I want to choose it myself?

Write to us with the species and any preference, and we will send three or four files to choose from. Most sponsors ask for the animals least likely to be adopted, and those are the ones we send first.

What happens if my animal is adopted?

You get the adoption photographs, and your sponsorship either moves to another animal of your choice or stops, whichever you prefer. Nothing continues silently.

Can I sponsor for one month only?

Yes, although the shelters plan on a quarterly basis, so three months is more useful to them and to the animal.

Can I visit the animal I sponsor?

In most partner shelters, yes, by arrangement. They are working sites, so visits are scheduled rather than open.

Is an animal sponsorship program the same as adoption?

No. Sponsorship pays for the animal where it is. Adoption takes it home. Many sponsors start with one and finish with the other.
